Robert Wee : : : view collection

Robert Wee has mastered the challenge of
painting the sea and has earned a reputation
as one of the premier seascape artists on the
West Coast. The viewer of his paintings feels the
movement of incoming waves as they break
over rocks and along the water's edge.

Born and raised in Iowa, Robert enlisted in the
Navy at seventeen and spent time in the Pacific
theater during World War II where he began
sketching the people and scenery of the
California, Oregon, Japanese and Chinese
coastlines. Several years later, he and his family
moved to California where his desire to paint
the sea began.

Although Robert seeks a change of pace
through landscapes or character studies, he has
discovered that the ocean, from its softly swelling
sand dunes and solitary waters on the Southern
California coast to its rugged rock-bound
Oregon coast blesses the inquisitive artist with
an abundance of assorted challenges. He and
his wife travel regularly up and down the Pacific
Coast sketching, photographing and observing
the ocean in the magic of its changeable moods
and seasons.
