Robert Striffolino is a painter who has spent much
of his career bringing his life and art into balance
with nature. Striffolino paints impressionistic
landscapes, which have a lush, breathing
quality. To become an artist, Striffolino undertook
an odyssey of both his inner and outer selves,
and his discoveries are mirrored in his oil paintings
of stunning southwestern landscapes.
Striffolino became inspired to paint after
backpacking alone for seven months from the
Great Smokies and the Texas Gulf Coast to New
Mexico and then north through the Rockies to
Canada and down the California coast. It was
while camping on the California coast that he
decided to paint, a career choice which, he
remembers, felt "very resounding."
Robert Striffolino's enchantment with the
Southwest is captured in his luminous, flowing
landscapes. Colors are rich and intense, yet are
softened by the blurred edges of foliage, fields,
water and sky. These rich impressionistic
panoramas have a serene and peaceful quality
that reflects Striffolino's deep respect and awe
for his subject.
