I grew up in the plains state of North Dakota and
remember drawing a lot as a kid. My parents
weren’t artists (they still don’t know how I got
hooked on art) but my brother and I drew all
the time to entertain ourselves. My family later
moved to Minnesota, my brother got interested
in basketball, but with some encouragement
from my teachers, I kept on drawing.

I attended Moorhead State University and
earned a degree in Art Education. Then
promptly went into sales. I continued to support
my art habit by painting on weekends and
evenings and was able to exhibit in galleries in
Fargo (yes, they do talk like in the movie) and
Grand Forks, North Dakota and later in
Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In addition to painting and drawing I’ve been
fortunate to design a line of area rugs. I don’t
really have a deep philosophy about art. A
friend told me once that appreciating the little
things in life is what matters most. I guess maybe
that’s what I gravitate to: the beauty in the
ordinary.
