Seeing something, capturing that image on film,
and then knowing that the entire mood of that
scene can be changed in and out of the
darkroom, is what excites Dianne Poinski every
time she takes a photograph. Almost every
photograph made is pre-visualized as a hand-
tinted image, seeing softness in color and form
that may not be present in the actual scene.

While attending Sacramento State University
with the intent to obtain a degree in
accounting, Dianne took a photography course
to satisfy the art requirement... She found the
darkroom a fascinating place to be. Obsession
with photography soon led to passion and
eventually the decision was made not to
pursue her original goal of becoming a CPA.

After working almost exclusively with black and
white images for several years, she was
introduced to the art of hand-tinting and found
a completely new realm of possibilities. Dianne
soon discovered that the feelings of quiet and
solitude she experienced while hand-tinting
were carrying over into her subject matter.

In hand-painting her images, a black and white
photograph, printed on a fiber based, matte
paper is selectively tinted with photo oil paints
and colored art pencils. In some cases, the prints
have been sepia toned before the tinting
begins.

Dianne lives in Sacramento California with her
husband and two teenagers.
