Born in Nottingham but moved to sussex at the
age of four. Grew up in a small country town in
the shadow of the South Downs, which makes
me a country boy I suppose.

Educated in Brighton where I attended Brighton
college as a boarding pupil where I became
very involved in competetive sport representing
the school in almost all sports. This is an aspect of
my life I have carried on and I now play for a
Rugby Union club in Bath at a regional level. I
find this a complete break from the rest of my
working week which is very cerebral and quiet
and it is great to get out on the pitch at
weekends and test yourself physically and
concentrate on nothing but the team.

I am lucky to live in one of the most beautiful
and culturally rich cities not just in England but
the world and there is always something going
on. But the best aspect of Bath is being right
in the heart of the West Country, with its rural
beauty and relaxing pace of life, and take
every chance to be out in it, either walking
(witha country pub at the end!) or on the family
canal barge enjoying the view gradually
change as you very slowly drift along.

I almost followed a career in the sciences,
possibly engineering/architecture and still
have a love of all things scientific, especialy
cosmology. I probably inherited this from my
parents whom are both scietnific. my father
being a surgeon and mother was a
bacteriologist. But a love of drawing from an
early age pusuaded me to give ‘Art” a go
and I studied Graphic Design in Bath. I think
that the combination of these two factors, the
beautiful environment of the city and a visual
training in graphics has had a major influence
on my work. I am interested in beautiful objects
and the shapes they make within the
environment of the frame they occupy. I think
it is the designer in me that likes to deal with
composition, colour, and surface, and it is the
artist that is intrigued by the emotions that can
be evoked by familiar everday objects such as
an empty chair.

Having worked for several years in the very
commercial world of illustration want to now
follow a more personal path and make work
that speaks to me and hopefully others.
