Mary Kay Krell : : : view collection

Mary Kay Krell’s intricately detailed, beautifully
realistic floral watercolors seem to be illuminated
from within. She draws her inspiration from the
things that she believes are the most important
in her life: the beauty of nature, sensitivity to the
environment, and the elegance and tranquillity
of domestic life. She feels a desire not only to
please the viewer, but to draw the viewer into
her love of these things. She approaches ideas
and carries them out in a methodical,
intellectual way that suits her introspective
nature.

Mary Kay draws inspiration from what she sees
around her. She is visually influenced by many
things such as the organic beauty of flowers
and living things, the drama created by light,
combinations of color that are pleasing to the
eye, the decorative arts and the small treasures
of domestic life.

She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a university
town. She was raised in a musical family and
became interested in the arts at an early age.

She studied painting and printmaking at the
University of Michigan and has held several
positions as a graphic artist. These jobs were
intermingled with raising a family, moving
several times to different locations throughout
the United States, and dabbling in painting in
acrylics and pen and ink illustration.

Since she began painting seriously in watercolor
in 1985, she has developed a representational
style characterized by softness, luminosity, and
meticulous preoccupation with color. Krell
regularly exhibits with watercolor societies, and
is a signature member of the Southwestern
Watercolor Society as well as the Society of
Watercolor Artists of Fort Worth. In 1998 Krell was
awarded the David Christopher Goldbury
Award in the Texas Watercolor Society national
exhibition. She now lives in Texas and her
originals grace the homes of collectors from New
York to California.

Mary Kay Krell is published by Bentley Publishing
Group of Walnut Creek, California and
distributed worldwide.
