Darrell M. Hill is perhaps one of the finest living
“bold” impressionists. Born in 1941 in Hillsborough,
Illinois and raised in California, he receive formal
art instruction at the College of the Sequoias,
Fresno State University and Brooks Institute,
School of Fine Art in Santa Barbara. Mr. Hill’s love
of “light”, paint, and canvas and his thorough
understanding of color theory and paint
technique eventually led to his success in the
fine art world. His paintings career now spans
more than two decades. In addition to his
beautiful work in oil, Mr. Hill also works in
watercolor and drawing.

While the subject matter of Hill’s paintings are
as diverse as the world in which he lives –
beaches, tropics and beautiful people – the
“Hill” touch is unmistakable in each of his works.
A visual layered paint with strong contrasts,
incredible use of color, and “light” with surface
texture are hallmarks of his paintings. He has a
gift for observation and the ability to paint with
both freshness and emotion. His paintings
capture the moment of light that often reflects
a story. The creative work of Darrell Hill has
been described as colorful and comforting,
warm and inviting and sometimes, courageous.

Masters that Darrell Hill has been influenced by
include: Monet, John Singer Sargent, Joaquin
Sorolla, Van Gogh, Klimt, and Gaugin. In
addition to participate in a number of one-man
shows, Mr. Hill’s paintings are included in
hundreds of private and public collections
throughout the world. He lives with his wife, also
an artist, in the Hawaiian village of Holualoa.
