Katharine Gracey’s art reflects the essence of
her Napa Valley experience. It is filled with the
sun drenched colors and mix and match
textures of her casual California lifestyle. Her
signature style has evolved into a unique set of
patterns and colors that combine to create
charming, elegant and whimsical products for
the home.
A native of the Midwest, Katharine has been
a landscape watercolor artist since childhood.
She studied and trained at the University of
Wisconsin before moving to the Napa Valley in
California where she has lived for the past
twenty-five years.
Through a succession of artistically inspired
endeavors, Katharine has translated her
observations and memories into imaginative
forms of art. In the early Seventies, she worked
almost exclusively in watercolors, then
embarked on a career as a successful florist,
before deciding to venture into the design and
painting of home furnishings. Added to this mix
was a retail store featuring her designs in St.
Helena, California. In 1991, she and her
husband, Gavin, established Gracey Knight,
Ltd. and have exhibited their handpainted
furniture and accent pieces at High Point,
Atlanta and New York.
Since its inception Gracey Knight, Ltd. has
successfully sold nationwide through both
interior designers and prestigious retail stores
such as Neiman Marcus. The handpainted
pieces include accessories such as lamps,
candlesticks and clocks in addition to a
delightful juvenile furniture line featuring fantasy
characters. In fact, her custom designed
children’s groups are in many celebrities’ homes.
Katharine, her husband and son live in lovely
home overlooking the Napa Valley with a view
of the vineyards through the treetops. Sprinkled
throughout her home are examples of her
watercolor paintings, handpainted furniture
and beautiful murals. She is now involved in
translating her vision into a wide range of
products for the home furnishings and gift
markets. Visit her website at:
