After seeing an artist painting in spectacular
pastel colors, Marguerite Gonot knew at the
young age of three that she wanted to become
an artist. Gonot promptly told her mother who
went out and bought this aspiring artist her first
pack of crayons. Since that time Marguerite
Gonot has studied in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
at the AdArt School, attended many workshops
in California and received professional training
at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill,
California. Gonot’ paints in watercolor and pen
and ink; her primary focus is in the human figure
though lately she has been concentrating on
floral arts.
A native of Ohio, Gonot left the Midwest during
WWII to live with her sister; she said she was
anxious and quite ready to leave, looking
forward to a new life on the West Coast.
Gonot thought her big break would come in
1976 when Corporate Giant in the paper
industry Zellerbach bought one of her paintings
and told her he would further her art career.
However, on the way to Hawaii on board the
Mariposa, Zellerbach died of a heart attack,
after having his secretary write a letter to Ms.
Gonot informing her that upon his return he
would be in touch.
Since that time Gonot has pursued her art
career and shows in local galleries.
Proud mother of three and grandparent of
seven, Marguerite Gonot lives in California and
is published exclusively by Bentley House Fine
Art Publishers in Walnut Creek, California.
