The springboard that developed the solid
structure for Esther Engelman's work was an early
emphasis on drawing. This gave her the ability
to reduce a composition to it’s strongest and
simplest elements, recording just enough detail,
while still retaining the natural atmosphere and
color of the location. Always dependable,
nature presents itself in perfect color,
atmosphere and composition. Nature is
universal and timeless. Her paintings rarely
include modern day objects which she feels
alter natures tranquility. She attempts to go
beyond the re-creation of an object and
instead re-create mood, atmosphere and
condition. She paints the paintings she truly
wants to live with, always yearning for
romance and escape, while extending an
invitation to the viewer to linger and escape
as well.
