Greg Cartmell has been described as one of
America’s most powerful Contemporary painters.
He paints with a lyrical intensity and with a rich,
unique vision of his world. The artist’s passion in
each work is felt by the viewer on a deeply
emotional, almost visceral level. With bold, rapid
application of buttery oil pigments using long-
handled brushes, he “writes” his landscapes as
effortlessly as the most creative and facile poet.
Born in Massachusetts, Cartmell traveled the
world as an artist and musician. It’s been a
thirty-year journey for Greg who cut his “plein-
aire teeth” on the shores of Massachusetts,
learning art from the ground up. After all his
travels Cartmell finally settled in the Deep South
where he finds himself amidst waterlilies and
water snakes.
Cartmell has been the recipient of numerous
awards and distinctions, including Who’s Who
in American Art and The Copley Society of
Boston. His work is in many public and private
collections throughout the US.
