June
Carey's oil paintings are able to capture
the purity and beauty of the land, as though
untouched by mankind. Light penetrates the
landscape, and color hides behind every
corner. Her dramatic, sunlit seascapes
enveloping a picturesque coastal vision are
enhanced by the play of light and shadow on
the rocks.
A self-taught artist since 1966, Carey started out
on the East Coast, coming to the West as a
teenager, where she began painting the
deserts. It wasn't until the 1980's that she began
to paint the coast of California. From that point
she began showing successfully in galleries in
Carmel, an artists enclave on the California
coast.
June Carey has won numerous awards,
including the Arts In The Parks, Region II winner
in 1997 and 1998, Top 100 award 1994-1998.
She has been featured in many articles and
magazines including Artists Magazine, 1996.
