Robert Buelteman’s art is a celebration of life
and nature, expressed in photographs that are
powerful extractions of beauty and substance
revealing unrecognized dimensions in the
commonplace. After 25 years and 2
monographs of his work working as a successful
black and white landscape photographer, he
abandoned cameras, lenses, and computers in
pursuit of imaging life directly on film. This unique
artwork has become a sensation in the public
domain as well as in the fine art community,
and can be found in public and private
collections worldwide.

Truly great art has a way of altering our
experience of life, and in that way, provides a
tremendous value to the public.

I am inspired by the nature that I see around me
every day. The genius of evolution playing itself
out, resulting in the myriad forms of life that
surround us, give me hope and imbues my life
with a sense of wonder and appreciation.

My images are made without the traditional
tools of photography, cameras, lenses, and
computers. These are photograms, made by
placing living plants on large sheets of film, and
then passing high-voltage electrical currents and
white fiber-optic light through them. The resulting
image combines both the energy signature and
physical form of the subject, both of which are
integral to the life of the plant.

Life is short, precious and unpredictable. Take
time to appreciate the beauty, balance and
harmony that characterizes life on our planet.
