Roloan Bianchi was born near Salerno, Italy in
1946. He is the son of an American GI stationed
in Italy during the war. His mother was a local
from a well to do family that was destitute
because of the war.
As a youth Roloan had only his grandfather for
a father figure. The old man took him to Rome
and eventually to Florence to show him the
treasures of Italy. In Florence, Roloan fell in love
with the myriad of Renaissance paintings. On
their return to the village, Roloan began to
emulate the masters’ paintings. He was good
and soon settled on still-life as the subject of his
preference.
At the age of twenty, he finally met his father.
He came to Italy on holiday with his American
family to show them where he had been during
the war. Needless to say the discovery of a
grown son came as a shock; but an agreement
was reached; Roloan would come to America
to study.
Bianchi is today a very successful painter. He
lives in the hills outside of Florence. His work is in
great demand in both Europe and the United
States.
