Judy Mandolf : : : view collection

Photographer Judy Mandolf grew up in
Indiana and Sacramento California. Mandolf
feels that her Midwest youth was a privilege; it
provided “grounding”.

Initially self-taught, Judy enrolled in many
college courses, including the New York Institute
of Photography, Maine Photographic’s French
Campus, Santa Fe Photographic, University of
California at San Diego and Grossmont College.
Throughout her studies Mandolf developed an
interest in the works of late 19th and early 20th
century artists Whistler, Magritte, and Dali who
have greatly inspired her art.

Judy has exhibited hand-colored black and
white photographs throughout the United
States and Europe. She was selected
International Photographer Magazine’s
Photographer Of The Year in 1988, was
awarded the Gold Medal Discovery Award by
Art of California magazine in 1992 and won the
New Names/New Faces Competition at the
prestigious Santa Fe East Gallery in Santa Fe,
New Mexico in 1990. In 1994 her figurative
studies were part of a cultural exchange with
Hungary. Since shifting her focus to computer
generated art in 1996, Judy’s images were
awarded Best of Show at the Del Mar
Exposition and second place in Computer
Edge magazine’s art competition.

Through the use of photographs Mandolf
creates images from her favorite subjects;
architectural details, figurative studies,
landscape and still lives. From these
photographs she scans the images into a
computer and through a digital medium
produces wholly original pieces of art. Using
specially designed software the artist adds
texture, subtle plays of light, and changes of
color and value. When the viewer sees Judy’s
work it gives them a sense of serenity; a
different way of seeing things. “To me ‘art &
beauty’ are synonymous. I love all styles and
am glad there is room for all” explains the artist.

While she spends a great deal of time at the
computer, when Judy is not creating art she
enjoys spectator sports, especially football,
baseball and basketball. And for solitude, Judy
enjoys reading. Mandolf currently lives in
Southern California with her husband and one
small Yorkshire Terrier.

Judy Mandolf is published exclusively by
Bentley House Fine Art Publisher of Walnut Creek
and distributed worldwide.
